for the love of tomato soup

last week we were blessed with some unseasonably cool days.
gorgeous breezy days
& even one rainy day.
i can't remember the last overcast rainy day we've had here in atlanta
so i really savored that one.

best thing to do on a rainy cool day is make some soup.
i've posted once or a dozen times about how much we love
which is caroline's favorite....even requested for her birthday dinner back in the spring.

my little herb garden in the back yard has done fantastic this summer
but i can tell my basil is on it's last leg

fear not
mr. manners is not allowed to rest his chin on the table
but he snuck a quick move on me while i was photographing dinner.

he cracks me up
he loves all his raw veggies....carrots, brocoli & cucumbers.
i would love to know what his little mind is thinking...
probably something along the lines of
why are these humans ignoring me.
i love my veggies.
pass the tomato soup woman!....please

while we've warmed back up again
i can feel fall is just peeking at us around the corner.
looking forward to finding some yummy soup recipes.

would love to hear your favorite!

I'm a fan of a good chicken tortilla soup!
And post Thanksgiving we make turkey tortilla soup with some of the scraps!
Something about soup makes me long for cool rainy weather :)

My cousin makes the most delicious chicken noodle soup with basil ... it's my all time fave ... I've tried to emulate it but to no avail. I'm going to give Edie's Spicy Tomato soup a try ... feels like Fall is just around the corner here in WV too! :)

We love tomato soup over here as well and I use this recipe and freeze it so we have some throughout the colder months

Edie' recipe looks delicious and I'm excited to give it a try and that picture of your 4 girlies is gorgeous!!!

That dog slays me. So does Little Bit standing on her tippies all the time. My fave soups are my roasted tomato soup and Martha's broccoli corn chowder which are both on my blog and also Emeril's stilton soup. Amazing! Happy Fall to you. We are warming up today and tomorrow and then we are back to Autumn and I have soup on the menu Wednesday.

Pizza Soup!! Perfect for a chilly day and it's soooo good! It's a south beach recipe...here's the recipe for all...

Pizza Soup Recipe - South Beach Diet Recipe (Phase 2)

Ingredients:

1 can Hunt's No Sugar Added Spaghetti Sauce
1 cup of low fat milk
1/2 of a package low fat Cream Cheese (softened)
Canadian Bacon or Low Fat Pepperoni (sliced)
Mushrooms or other pizza toppings
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Place all ingredients into a large saucepan or Dutch oven and heat thoroughly. Allow to simmer on low heat until the cream cheese is well blended in the mixture.
Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Serve in bowls, with some low fat mozzarella sprinkled on top. This is a meal and not a side dish!

I don't like tomato soup, but then I don't even like ketchup. Aww, poor boy, I think he REALLY wanted some of that soup, looks like he is struggling with his language barrier, thinking "HOW can I ask for some, my eyes are not getting the message across today, if only I could speak!"

Okay your dog is the CUTEST!!!! Love his sad/guilty eyes in the last photo. My fave soup and a BIG hit on my blog is my tortilla soup. Here is the recipe

I am telling you girl...everyone who makes it LOVES it. Even lil kids love it. One of my readers even won a cooking contest with it.

I am yearning for Fall here but we don't really get Fall in TX (not my part anyway).

Caroline looks so cute up on her tippy toes. Love that girll!!!

I LOVE Tomato soup!
My favorite to make is my Pumpkin Chili...It won in our small group's Chili Cook-off last year...it was 1 of 6 chili's entered so I was pretty happy to take home the win! :-)

Brown 2 (1lb) maple sausages with onion and red and/or yellow pepper (I do half of each)
Once that's finished, add sausages & peppers in a large pot then add the following ingredients.
2 cans chicken broth
2 cans black beans
1 can chili beans
1 pinto beans (or a white bean)
1 lg can 100% pure pumpkin (not sweetened)
2 tsp cumin
Salt, pepper & seasoning to taste

You can serve this right away once it's heated or you can place it in a crock-pot to let the flavors blend a little longer (that's my recommendation)

Optional topping ideas:
Sour Cream
Cheese
Cottage Cheese (I was surprised at how delicious this was)

Hasnt the weather been wonderful?! Im going to check out your recipe for tomato soup. I made it (out of a can) for some friends kids that were over one day, the little boy went home and told his mom that "Ms. Bethanie made us the BEST homeade soup!!!" Needless to say, when she asked me about it,I had to laugh and fess up!! I love to make cheesy potato soup, I often throw in some corn to make it more of a chowder. My secret ingredient is the lemon pepper they sell at Homegoods, of all places! It has the best flavor!! Hope all is wonderful in your world!

This is really bad.... One of my favorite "go to" tomato soup recipes is one I invented. Buy a fancy jar of Vodka Pasta Sauce and dump it in a sauce pan. Add a can of diced tomatoes (Ones flavored with basil are always a good choice). Add some half and half (or heavy cream), however much you like. Simmer and pour into a bowl. Yum. I, also, LOVE to add blue cheese crumbles to my tomato soup. Delish.

Gosh we seriously need some cooler weather here in Fl. Still in the high 90's :(. Hard for me to make/eat soup in these awful temps! Looks sooo good though and will definitely make this!

I always make what we call "hamburger soup" with cornbread when the weather turns cool. Last Saturday daughter wanted to make chili while she watched Auburn play...she said she knew it wasn't cold enough for chili but something about Auburn Saturdays brings out the chili makin' mama in her!

I'll have to try your tomato soup recipe, looks delish!

I love potato/broccoli/cheddar soup. Yumm! It's so good all together. I also love my grandma's recipe of "garbage soup" - it was a broth type soup with barley and any leftover veggies - thus the garbage name I guess. It has an ugly name, but an awesome, simple taste. Enjoy the cool weather when it comes back. It was lovely here in Birmingham as well and the rain... even more amazing! :)

Huge fan of lentil soup slow cooker style. Half a bag of lentils, rinsed. About 4 cups of water, about 2 cups of broth, can of diced tomatoes, chopped celery, onion and carrot. Occasionally I will add chopped potato and/or some chopped ham. Season to taste. Turn the cooker on high. Couple hours in, I check the liquid and add more water if needed. Sometimes the beans really soak up the liquid. I like mine more like soup. Hubs likes it thicker.
This is done in about 4 hours or so. Taste to make sure the beans are nice and soft. Serve with crusty bread and a salad.

The soup looks so good!

I also love your black and white cooking pot! What name brand is it and where did you get it?
Thanks.

I MISS MY PUBLIX !moved to NC 3 years ago and now friends and family ship me items that can't be matched. I recently got off a cruise ship in Charleston SC and hit the closest PUBLIX..10 pounds of ground round , 6 gallons of diet sweet tea and 15 packages of chili mix later I was a happy girl!! FYI any Publix you visit in the south always smells the same...it's a preview of paradise.
