her love language

do you know your child's love language

i think it's one of the most fascinating discoveries
to find out how to love well
those in our little nest.
are also important to factor in.

i'm fairly certain
little bit's love language is receiving gifts.

"Don’t mistake this love language for materialism;
the receiver of gifts thrives on the love, thoughtfulness, and effort behind the gift.
If you speak this language, the perfect gift or gesture shows that you are known, you are cared for, and you are prized above whatever was sacrificed to bring the gift to you.
A missed birthday, anniversary, or a hasty, thoughtless gift would be disastrous—so would the absence of everyday gestures."

as much as she feels loved when someone
gives a gift to her
she has her own generous spirit.

for christmas she went out
& spent her money
on gifts for each of us.
she spent a great deal of time & made thoughtful decisions
on what the perfect gift would be.
( she gave me a fabulous ring
& gold journal from charlotte russe! score!)
she loves to wrap each gift
& write a sweet little note to go along with it.

one year, her pop pop gave her $50.
it burned a hole in her pocket.
not at target.
not at the mall.
she wanted to give it all away.
every penny.
she wanted to give it a family in need at church
or put the 50 spot in the offering.

yesterday she received a package from one of my precious readers
who has also become a friend.
susan most certainly has an incredible generous spirit.

as she opened the package she exclaimed
"oh mama, she so knows me"

last year when caroline was seeing both a neurologist
& a gastroenterologist for her migraines
and some other issues,
my sweet friend sent her a plethora of love!

i have the same love language.
whether i open a card or an extravagant gift
i'm always blown away that the giver took the time
to pick out a special gift to make me feel loved.

so when my sweet friend loves on my baby girl
she loves on me too.

thank you susan.
you are truly a blessing to me.

i would love to hear how you feel loved~

John 13:34& 35

Let me give you a new command:
Love one another.
In the same way I loved you, you love one another.
This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples
when they see the love you have for each other

ps. her super duper cute posies in her gift are from the pleated poppy

I have read "The Five Love Languages" for adults in a church study group. It's really awesome! I need to go out and get the one for children. I fall into the category of "Words of Affirmation" with Receiving Gifts being the second strongest. To be apprecaited with kind words makes my heart sing and it is perhaps the reason I am an encouraging person to others. It really does make a difference to know what really is truly "loving" someone be it your spouse or child. "The Five Love Languages for Children" has been on my mind to get and to read. Thanks so much for sharing this with us! I'm gonna go on out and purchase it today!

Hi Paige, I haven't commented before but I read your blog every morning and I loooove it. You are such an encouragement and a wonderful blog mentor! I too have read and done a study on "The Five Love Languages". My language is definitely words of affirmation, but one of my girlies is deffinitely a gifts girl and I love it. It is so funny, once you have read the book or done the study, you can predict all your friends and family members love language. Thank you so much for your daily thoughts! Didn't realize there was a "love language" book for children? Probably should have read it sooner.:-)
Don't you just love how God made each child so different?! Certainly keeps us parents on our toes! But also makes life so much richer! Love reading your sweet, encouraging words each morning.

I love the 5 Love Languages and have them for adults and for children. My Jamison is words of affirmation for sure and I try and give her just that. Me, I'm an acts of service kind of gal. I love doing for others...listening, making a meal or a card, just being there and I love when others do the same for me. Makes my heart go pitter patter :)

That is sooo sweet! I love Caroline's reaction. I, too, have read the Five Love Languages. I am a HIGH Quality Time with words of affirmation as a close second.

Words make me feel loved. Every now and then I'll get an email or a card from a reader and it will completely bless my day. There is just something about taking the time to appreciate someone and tell them how they've blessed your life that is so precious. I love that your girl wanted to give her money away. You have done a good job Mom!

so weird- I was just thinking about doing the same type of post! I am a big believer in the 5 Love Languages and try to always make sure I'm in tune with my kids love languages. My Love Language is quality time- poor hubby. I think that is the most difficult one.
My oldest has the same love language and so I know how difficult it is to take time and spend quality time with someone that is almost a teenager- yikes!

words of affirmation....
the spoken word...the written word...
oh, they matter so much.

LOVE that someone treated your sweet little one.

Just catching up here... words of affirmation..I think that is my primary love language although gifts would be a close second and again not the materialism AT ALL...but the thought. I must admit that Dave loves me through acts of service which is great but sometimes I am left really craving those words or gifts:)

I work hard to read my kiddos love languages but it is not always 100% clear. Harry's is definitely quality time. I think Will's are similar to mine....I cannot pin down KAte's yet.

Love Madison's cheering post and those cup[cakes are LOVELY!!!! And I love your cute lil family dancing around the kitchen...you are such a COOL Mom. I think it must be so fun to have all those girls around. i need more girls:) My boys would roll their eyes:)

I just want you to know that I really enjoy every visit to your beautiful blog. I have been visiting here for the last six months and never commented before. I am a mother of three grown daughters and find your commentary and pictures of your daughters, so interesting. You have a lovely family! Thank you for adding joy to my day via your blog.

A few years ago, I was made aware of the five love languages. It has been so helpful in the way I treat our girls. Great post!

I'm so thrilled that Miss C loved her package. The smile on her face says it all.
I truly believe that it is easier to give than it is to receive. I've never had a problem giving, but receiving is another story.
Is it possible to love someone you've never even met? I just love that girl. She's a sweetie.

My love language is quality time. My boys are all different...but my oldest is like your little sweetie...he gives all of his money away every chance he gets. He never spends it on himself. I love that about him.

You probably know my love language from my birthday post (quality time). Love that love languages book (I linked to it as a must read). I have a gifts daughter, too. She's always in our craft room making things...to give as little gifts for no reason at all.

Thought of you today in Anthropologie. I remembered seeing this post early this morning and stopped by Anthro to by a little gift for my "gifts" daughter. It totally spoke her language! Just the gift box alone got her all fired up!

Hugs!
Linsey

How absolutely adorable and sweet that gift was...a loving assortment of things for your sweetie!!! My 9 yr old too made or bought gifts {with her own money} for everyone this past Christmas...a generous spirit is such a wonderful thing to see in a child.

Hope you have a great weekend Paige!

I'm just catching up with what's been going on in your world. Paige, you have the most beautiful daughters ... inside and out! I love how you keep life real and embrace each day with what is has to offer.

Thank you for the intro to Love Languages. This falls so nicely into one of my goals this year. I'm going to do a post about it once my husband finishes his questionnaire.

Have a great week ~
