a holiday, simplified

it's so funny the last few days. each time i've opened an email
or read a comment from the last post or clicked on my fb messages
i've kinda braced myself for whatever may come...
& i ended up reading encouraging note after encouraging note.
i did have one reader suggest that i was defending myself or apologizing.
oh i can assure you i'm not apologizing for the gospel or what i believe.
what i was trying to do was in a blog post that can be read in less than 2 minutes
without a "voice", explain a simplified version of what i believe
& not get anyone all ruffled up and definitely not argue.
while i blog everything about my little world but my social security number
i always want the tone of this blog to not be a fiesty complaining argumentative
snarky place.
that's all...

i pulled out these bowls that savannah & madison painted when they were maybe 7 or 8 years old.
priceless treasures!

madi painted the family portrait style on the left. we had some big laughs trying to figure out
who was who. i think the baldie on the top right was baby caroline.
the very dark child with the shortest hair must be emily.
madi has the hair bow & savannah and i look similar except for my green eyes.
its obvious the one & only man. whew.

it's been a tradition since the 80's for me
if we're in town i try to run the peachtree roadrace.
the largest 10k with this year, 60,000 runners.
it's wild. it's hot. & it's primarily uphill.
they stagger the starts so basically the seeded runners are long finished by the time
most all other groups are even moved to the start line.
luckily i had all the blue eyes come with me at the crack of dawn
& drop me off at my starting area and then wait forever for me to finish.
i finished in an hour ten which isn't horrible for me since i hadn't really trained well.
but honestly it's all about the shirt.
if you go anywhere in atlanta on the 4th it's always fun to see the sea of peachtree tshirts.

we came home & grilled a fabulous meal
& then i took a 2 hour power nap.
dan & caroline had the final braves tickets for the package we gave dan at christmas.
2 tickets for 5 games.
an opportunity for him to have an event with each of us from may-july.
little bit rocked her own free people inspired ensemble
with a little middleschooler sass thrown in there for fun.
tweens, round 4, in the knudsen home. here we go!

my favorite sorority girls had plans together
so i was able to finally snap some pictures of them.
it's been forever!

on a random, non-holiday note,
i recently completed a session featuring some amazing jewelry
from a local designer
that i can NOT wait to share with you.
how's that for a teaser!
savannah spent last week at our church camp serving & loving on the highschoolers.
(she came home whooped so i snapped this little moment
in which caroline stated, "i feel like trevor"...too funny)
& heads back out this morning to do it all again with the middleschoolers!
fun times.

so wrapping up my 4th,
having spent the day with a million people in the heat
combined with i have a load of work to complete before we head out on vacation
i honestly had no desire to go back out.
first year in ages that i watched the fireworks on tv.
i took an aleve
rubbed biofreeze on my sore knees
worked on some edits
& called it a night.

i hope each of you had a wonderful fireworks filled 4th of july!

I'm so happy and jealous at the same time that you did the run yesterday. It was a little inspiration for me that you ran in the hot hot hot heat. I have to get my sorry self back out on the road and do a little burn.

Ugh! I remember bracing myself to read my comments. I don't miss that at all. I'm sorry you're getting them! THat just means you're a huge success. :)

And that Pic of Caroline! LOVE! Including the decor around her. I want to crawl into that photo and have a visit.

Here's to lots and lots of encouraging comments and no nasties!

oh and good job on the run. Now you have me wanting that t shirt. I guess I'm easily influenced. :)

glad you found good stuff, not bad stuff... you know what they say "haters gonna hate".. so if you get any of those you just gotta consider the source. (easier said than done, i know) great pics and how awesome you are for getting the T-shirt! I watched the race on TV and kept looking for you :D

I am impressed that you did the run. Good for you.
Your days rremind me of when mine were younger. All the coming and going.
Caroline is just too cute these days.....I like what you said about the middleschooler with a litte sass.
ALso funny that she said that she felt like Trevor. Hah....cute picture.
Hope the sore muscles go away .
Our town has a fair in the village. Looks like Norman ROckwell. Well the downtown has been without power for 7 days but the fair is still on. Can't imagine why.....but we are meeting some of the grands there this eve. We didn't have power or water or ice for 3 days. Warm drinks, no flushing, and high temps. Yuck. But we were blessed getting power on so soon.

I had to go back and read your mentioned posts and the comments again. Sometimes I think we "over think" it all. I am always reminded of the verse you quoted about having the faith of a child...sometimes I think it's just SO over my head and I must not be a good enough Christian...but I am reminded in a still small voice that if we had it all figured out, we wouldnt NEED HIM! In the end, no matter what happens to us here on this Earth, if we are Christians, WE WIN! Our reward is going to be eternity in Heaven at the feet of Jesus....that's all I need to know!

My daughter and her best friend went to Passion City last Sunday night, she said, "mama, I think your friend Paige goes there..." she loved the service and loved hearing Beth Moore...she said she was hot and disgusting by the time they made it from the parking lot, but it was worth it :).

We have lots of friends who ran the race yesterday. Maybe I'll put it on my bucket list, I'd just hate to have to be scraped off the pavement in the middle of ATL...but that shirt, that coveted shirt!! And I dont even wear t-shirts!

xoxo

You reallly do inspire me to stick with my running~even if I am as slow as a turtle! And how darling are those plates? Do you remember if the girls make them in school? Such a tease with those darling necklaces! And I am loving the pics of SMK and Little Bit! XOXO
P.S. I have a friend who lives in NC and asked me to do a run in SC in October. I need something like a fun t-shirt to inspire me to do it,lol! I guess it doesn't take much!

Ours was simplified too although, sadly, there was no race running!

That new jewelery is gorgeous! I can't wait to see more.
