neighbors

there's a farmhouse just across the street from emi's school.
two horses live there~ ruby & lucy, 5 year old sisters
& they are gorgeous!

i love driving down that street, just to see them.

i wish i knew horses
i wish i rode horses
i think they're amazing , spectacular creatures

i don't understand horse behavior
but these two are almost always side by side
maybe all horsies do this
but either way~
they graze right beside each other.
so sweet.
the other morning i decided to bring my camera with me
& capture some images of them after i dropped emi off at school.

they weren't too sure of me.
i'm a dork and forgot to bring carrots ( also forgot my zoom too)

i did however find one frozen one on the ground
score

well hello there neighbor!

i think this is ruby
isn't she gorgeous!

lucy hung back a little
clearly unimpressed by my one frozen carrot offering

i was hoping for an old testament 5 loaves of bread & 2 fish feeding the masses miracle
but they hit the road after i split the one carrot

if i had a red barn
i would so dress my tractor in rudolph garb
for sure

our community is changing.
 construction everywhere.
big yellow traffic barrels block the path on which i run.
our school district is in the top 10sh largest in the state.
but every time i drive by this field
& see these magnificent creatures
i feel as i live out in the country.
& it's beautiful

  4. Love horses! Grew up with them...taught riding lessons...dream would be to own a horse farm! Their behavior is much like a dog...very loyal!...so what I'm sayin is if you have carrots, apples, etc. then you are in girlfriend! Happy New Year!

  6. As always, your words and photos are just beautiful, Paige! That tractor made me smile!

We have horses living next to us as well. Last year, we got to see a foal walk for the very first time. It was so precious.

Wishing your sweet Family a VERY happy New Year!

    Love,
    Melanie

  9. Awww, the horsies are sooo sweet! I'm with you, I wish I rode as well. It seems like horses are so intuitive. Beautiful creatures and you captured them perfectly! Love the tractor's rudolph get up...love the laid back country life.

  10. Beautiful horses. They look like work horses....such think legs. The frozen carrot looks nasty hah.
It's sad when towns grow too big too quickly. I love the village that we live outside of. They have to fight to keep it small.
    Happy
New YEar. I so enjoy your blog.....but I say that alot.

  12. Paige, this post makes me think of the lullaby, "All the Pretty Horses"
    Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleepy you little baby.
When you wake, you shall have,
    All the pretty little horses.
Blacks and bays, dapples and greys,
Go to sleepy you little baby,
    Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
    Go to sleepy little baby.
    Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
    Go to sleepy little baby,
When you wake, you shall have,
    All the pretty little horses.
You can reference more about the song here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_the_Pretty_Horses_(lullaby)
The pictures you captured are beautiful. My mother always has had a fondness for horses and they for her. She still can bring a horse to her without so much as even calling to them. I have always called her the horse whisperer. It's nice that you have this serenity in the middle of your neighborhood. Thanks so much for sharing these beauties!

  13. Beautiful horses and beautiful photos. Your photos make me miss our little white pony.

I have always loved horses since I was a little girl. My daughter has been riding since she was four (she is now 15) and I was so happy when she started competing in Hunter/Jumper shows. (just don't tell her I'm afraid of riding them.) We bought a pony for her when she was eight and still own it although it is being leased right now by another little girl.

    Have a wonderful New Year's.

  14. Horses are some of the coolest animals God created. I grew up around horses in Montana, though never owned my very own. My dad didn't like mowing the lawn, so he pastured a couple of ponies in the backyard on summer. It was the best fun kids could ever have. I think we drove those poor horses nuts. They were pretty onery. Horses also make friends with dogs! I've always thought that was hysterical. Your photos are gorgeous by the way.

  18. Awww... Do you know why I love this post so much? Because it's reminiscent of the phrase, "stop and smell the roses". It is, and you did. How awesome, given the fact that we are still in the middle of the holidays and all of the chaos that ensues. Thank you for reminding us to do this and for sharing your beatiftul photos! :)

  20. What a peaceful way to spend some time. I laughed at you breaking the one carrot :)

  21. Okay first off....WHAT BEAUTIES! They are fabulous. As you know, I'm partial to larger horses and these two sisters fit the bill. They have such beautiful color. You don't usually see blond manes on a chestnut horse. Very nice. I especially love that red barn too, it's all so perfect. Is that the barn that Caroline was standing in front of for the photos awhile back? How's Caroline doing anyway? Better I hope.
Now about all the construction. I think y'all should move...TO COLORADO. I'm gonna go find you the perfect house right near us.
Emily and I went riding this afternoon. It was a great ride...not trying to rub it in. However, the sooner I hit menopause the better...trying to ride with that little companion is not fun, if you catch my drift.

    Happy New Year
