so this post has taken me all morning to get rolling...
anyways
if you haven't seen already, my fave blogger, aka edie, is starting a book club.
click on the above image & it'll take you right on over.
we're taking " chronological approach"
"as a way of following the development of western civilization
and how one writer’s work builds on the writers before them"
therefore
we're going to begin with The Odyssey
(gosh i feel so fancy regardless of the fact that i copied & pasted her spoken word)
& friends. i must admit hanging out with edie will make you feel very intellectual.
while she's quite the hottie
she's also a brainiac
which is a tad intimidating
but being so down to earth
she loves friends like me who actually have to google "the odyssey"
just to make sure i'm using correct spelling.
so wherever you may land on that continum why don't you join us...
i also wanted to share a few books i read this summer & am currently reading
i am really enjoying the ESV Study Bible
english standard version
The Mirror Ball by Matt Redman
Billy Graham's Nearing Home
Nicholas Kristof "Half the Sky"
& for teenagers,
"the message// remix: solo"
"not a fan"--a great book which now also has a teen version
two amazing men, Billy Graham & Ronald Reagan.
i love reading anything about them.
"i love you, ronnie", is a precious book with some of the love letters he sent nancy...
makes a sweet gift.
dan read "The Reagan Diaries" this summer.
many a night while we were in bed reading before turning out the lights
he would read a sweet portion from the diaries about how President Reagan always missed nancy when she was away. what a legacy of love & what a good man...

& my favorite read of the summer
was "Kisses from Katie"
read in 24 hours & is a life changer.
i highly recommend this for your teenage/college age girls.
Karen White's "the Memory of Water"
which i did enjoy
but i'll tell you is based around a few characters with bipolar which made it a little heavy
but i did enjoy how the story was written.
another favorite was "A Sweethaven Summer"
by my personal friend, courtney walsh.
a sweet, sweet story about friendships & healing hearts.
courtney has just released her latest work,
" A Sweethaven Homecoming"
& has offered a copy for one of you.
please leave me a comment & tell me your favorite book.
i'll post the winner monday!

I just finished Heaven is here by Stephanie Nielson and I loved it! Have you read it Paige?
ReplyDeleteI love reading so I have a hard time picking a favorite book, but my favorite that I've read recently is Edenbrooke by Juliane Donaldson.
ReplyDeletePsst...your link to the book club isn't working. Thanks for the recommendations, I'm always on the lookout for new reads.
ReplyDeleteI just finished The Choice by Robert Whitlow and really enjoyed it. Read A Sweethaven Summer while at the beach and can't wait to read her next one. Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI just finished A Sweethaven Summer and started A Sweethaven Homecoming about 30 minutes ago, so i can't really pick a favorite one yet. would love to win this book to give to a scrapbooking friend...
ReplyDeleteI adore reading. So yep, for me too it is hard to choose! I am reading 1000 gifts (I know im on the late train) and I am absolutely loving every single page.
ReplyDeleteAs far as novels this summer - The Help was a serious eye opener for me! I loved it!
Finally am reading 1000 gifts. I know you recommended it such a long time ago. The timing is perfect for me and mom to both be reading it together. After the loss of Daddy it really has helped us find JOY . By the way, Buddy recommended it to my husband for us to get too!

ReplyDeleteI would love to win her book! While my favorite book of all time is, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, this summer my favorite has been, The Book of Bright Ideas, by Sandra King. I always love getting book suggestions!
ReplyDeleteHow in the world does a book lover pick a favorite?!?!?! Favorite series' are the Love Comes Softly series by Janette Oke and Red River/Blessing books by Lauraine Snelling, but my all-time favorite author is Francine Rivers. I love all of her books!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading The Shoemaker's Wife and loving it!!! This summer I've also read Saving CeCe Honeycutt and it's also great book. BUT my all time fav is Redeeming Love.
ReplyDeleteYes! I too was so excited to see Edie's post last week on the book club. I told her that I had read the Odyssey in college, but of course had not read it with intent. Now this time I will be reading it with intent...looking so forward to that, and to the discussions that will follow. Also, I'm super excited to look into your reading recommendations! Thanks so much for sharing those with us. Oh, and btw, I received an email today from Carol & Co. regarding their summer sale and guess who was modeling some of the John Wind pieces???....your Emily and Madison : ))) They looked beautiful.

I love reading~I really need o make it a priority! I love anything by Jane Austen and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is one of my all time favorites! I am definitely signing up to read the Odyssey with y'all! What a great post Paige!
ReplyDeleteI've been dying to read Billy Graham's new book, I love anything by him, and since his grandfather and my mom's grandfather were brothers, I love him even more!
ReplyDeleteI'm a serial reader, always have several books going at one time, I'll have to check out some of your recommendations.
I don't think I have a favorite book besides the Bible. I won't be reading the Odyssey, I tried it in college that was enough! I just read Where We Belong by Emily Griffith. Except for a couple of useless sexual scenes it was a good read. A book has to grab me from the first few pages or my ADD kicks in. I'd love this book mainly because you recommended it! Lynda
ReplyDeleteI have been reading Tim Tebow's book. I love reading about such a wonderful Christian man. Such a role model.
ReplyDeleteFave book?! The lion the witch and the wardrobe is def one of my top choices!
ReplyDeleteI love when you talk about books you've read - I always need suggestions! I'm joining in and reading the odyssey also - a bitt nervous as it was a stroke of luck that I made it through university :)
It should be challenging - oops I meant inspiring.
xo ellie
Not sure if you would call it reading but I have been reading/doing the love dare book. Long story but it is working for myself and my ex-husband. I can say life is good and never been happier. Thank you for the chance to win this book.

ReplyDeleteRead "A Sweethaven Summer" after you recommended it on the blog. Loved it! So happy there is a sequel. I have so many favorites it's hard to pick one but one in the top five would have to be "Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood"
ReplyDeleteThanks for the book reviews! Will have to check out the Sweethaven Summer series. Love Billy!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog this week..enjoying it!
Beautiful family!
God bless you!

Hello Paige.
ReplyDeleteIt was a fortunate day for me when I stumbled on to your blog thru Jones Design. I just want to tell you I have been reading and catching up on your earlier posts and must say that I am truly and deeply enthralled. The last 2 weeks have been very heavy for me reg my children, and I have been questioning myself a lot. And then I see post after post of your inspiring words, of your god loving heart and of your wonderful family. First step I have enrolled into the 365 days of reading the bible, copy pasted so many of the inspiring verses you put up and trying to memorize them. If you ever blogged thinking that it was not worth it, just know this very sorry women sitting in the desert of Kuwait has been touched in a mighty way. God bless you and your family Paige. May He shower abundant blessings on you.. and since you have such a beautiful relationship with our Lord, I ask you to pray for my children today. Maria A.
