the infamous coat & a winner

i found this coat a few months ago....
at old navy.
can you believe?
it looks like it should have been 4x the price.
i loved it.

caroline hated it.
i mean almost cried because i made her wear it "only for a quick photo session"
hated it.
said it made her look like she was 5.

i told her if i coulda found one in my size
i would have risked looking 5
to have that pretty coat.

so sadly, the coat, with tag pinned underneath the arm,
please don't turn me in to the old navy crowd
was worn for all of 17 minutes to snatch up these little images
&
then returned to old navy...
don't hate me but i think they're long gone...
sigh

& finally,
congratulations amy

  1. I LOVE love love this coat...I'd wear it!!! Well, maybe not pink but black or green would be gorgeous :)

But I might have trouble persuading my daughter who is exactly the same age as Caroline to wear it. She used to be such a pink girl....sigh!! She is however turning into quite the little French girl. all stripes, Converse, denim and camel so that's okay :)

    Beautiful photos Paige XX

  3. I bought the exact coat for my 11 year old and she, too, hates it but I do make her wear it on special occasions. She receives many compliments on it. I tried it on JUST to see if it would fit me - too short in the arms and verrry tight in the bust :). Wish there was an adult version...

Ooooh and love her hair too -- very cute!

  5. What a gorgeous coat! I would wear it too if they had my size! In fact, I think we should contact Old Navy and tell them there are a few of us wanting it in a bigger size! :)
Caroline is sooo cute, I love the pics!
And I am not sure if I have had a chance to wish you a Happy New Year my friend! XO

  6. See, we need more coats like this for us! Could we squeeze into it- doubt it, would look sorta funny. And how great is the color too...instead of basic black.

  9. I LOVE that coat too!!!!!!!! Sweetie when you see things like that (Kate would have totally worn it)...you need to text me. I would have been all over that. Old Navy really does have some good things sometimes. I shop there a lot!!! Sometimes the quality is not so great but to be honest...some of their shirts hold up better and longer than some of my J Crew shirts!

  11. I soooo know your pain in this area. Miss 12 going on 25 in my house has thrown her little tantrums in the stores over not liking what I have picked out.....I always just smile and tell her I'm not afraid to make a scene. I'd never do it, but it sure gets my point across. {HEHE} xoxo

  12. What a cute coat. Your little one is just growing up. Cute pictures anyway.
    Congratulations to the winner.

  13. Thank goodness!!!! I thought I was alone in this -- I have 4 girls (ages 4 though 8) who have ALOT of opinions about what they will and will not wear. Your girls always look so perfectly dressed. I thought I was the only one whose kids won't cooperate with what I think looks great! Adorable coat -- but I know that my 7 and 8 year olds wouldn't have even put it on for a picture! They won't wear anything that is pink.

  15. The pics are great! Were those taken at the Spruill Gallery? I have fond memories of that house from when I was a child. My great-uncle Steve Spruill & great-aunt Ethel lived there. And as for the coat? Caroline looks terrific in it. I love the coat and would totally wear it.... and I'm 54!!

  16. Love that coat! I too would wear that in a heartbeat! My daughter is the same age as Caroline. It is good you brought it home...you never know at this age what they might like! It is hard when they don't want to wear something so darling in favor of jeans and a t-shirt :( But we must pick our battles! Love your blog!

  36. AS we go through life our tastes sometimes change.
Funny thing . . . many years from now I have a hunch that she might have a pink coat in her closet somewhere in memory of how much you love this coat.

and oh . . I kinda love the coat myself.

  37. OK Paige,
Just have to tell you that my 11 {nearly 12} year old loves your blog - she calls it 'the ruffle girl blog':0) She walked by the monitor a few minutes ago and saw Caroline's picture up and remarked, "well, isn't she a cutie pie!'
I do believe they would make fine friends!!
    Blessings to you and yours!

  40. I love the coat too and she looked so pretty! I too would wear it, but I doubt my daughters would :( I was shopping with my 18 year old last week and tried on a plaid jumper that I absolutely loved and she told me I looked like I was 6 and there was no way she would wear it if she were me. Needless to say I didn't buy it!

Your photos are amazing! So wish we lived close so you could do a family session for us!
