a simple yet profound thought from my sweet emily

sometimes i wonder if i should continue to blog.
i see so many gorgeous artists blogs, photography blogs, decorating blogs, blogs written by 'real writers'. so many talented women that inspire me.
i know i'm not one of those bloggers.
& on some days, i think that maybe i should stop.

but then,  i get a sweet reminder of exactly why i started simple thoughts in the first place.
my blog is a safe place for me to journal the simple thoughts i have.
the simple moments that make up my life.
a safe place to chronicle our lives.
it's written for me
& it's written for my girls.

the other morning i woke up & found a note on facebook from my emi.
she's doing a little 30day thing & that day the project was to share something that had inspired you.
so i share this today, not to bring any attention to myself.
& i will blog about this moment,
a profound, yet simple reminder, of the love my sweet emi has
for her daddy & for me.

"i would definitely have to say both of my parents.
my mom has been through a lot especially when my dad died soon after i was born but she never gave up kept courage and now has a new husband. i know we get in arguments sometimes but she will always be the best mom ever and i look up to her because she is a great christian and has been through a lot but never backed down.
i also am very inspired by my dad he has a lot of knowledge. he was a bible teacher for many years and i hope to be like that one day where i am able to lead others to god.
i am so thankful my mom married him because he is the best father ever and i couldn't have asked for anyone better.
i love both of you ♥"

emi is at an age where sometimes we struggle to see eye to eye.
there are days where she misunderstands me
& days where i misunderstand her.
i know some of it is the developmental stage
some of it is just two different personalities trying to work things out,
mother daughter style.

yesterday during my run i prayed especially for our relationship.
that i would be slow to anger
& quick to reconcile.
this curly haired, beautiful brown eyed girl of mine,
she's the spitting image of her daddy gregg.
but her words of wanting to be just like her daddy,
both of whom have been teachers
& both of whom have led many to the lord
makes my heart swell!

& today i'm thankful for this blog,
a medium i can use
to keep moments like this
close to my heart

  1. That is lovley Paige. I think it is wonderful that your girls honour both of their fathers.

It is hard to understand and be paitent with our kids, especially as they grow and challenge us and themselves.

I think your blog is a wonderful keepsake. A picture diary full of updates.

  2. I am crying over this one, Paige.
I know how you feel about blogging. I am not a photographer, and really have no interest in being one, I love to decorate, but not blog about it. I blog for the things that are on my mind at the time, for me...And my daughters egged me into it.
I have 3 grown and married daughters. The relationships have changed over the years. Your blog reminds me of where we were.
Life is so great. We as mothers have such wonderful opportunities when we get to raise children and relish in the moments.
I love your blog and your heart.

  3. This was precious! I love your blog! But I know what you mean. I have often thought about deleting my blog just b/c I felt so inadequate. Not able to 'measure up' to those "real bloggers" as I call them. But then I look back on my older posts, and I realize the reason I started a blog was to keep a record of my precious children's lives, and the simple everyday things, and the not so simple everyday things that happen. If noone ever reads it but me, that's okay. One day I'll be able to show my children and maybe they will be blessed by it! Sweet, sweet post!

  4. such a beautiful post paige~ i really enjoy your blog because it is about the love of your family, your home & your life (the beautiful pictures are a added benefit!) and not so much about how many followers you have or how you can make money from it~

  6. Paige, I just want to tell you that your blog IS very inspirational to so many. It is because you do share what is real like this beautiful post on Emily, that really does inspire. And it is because your first and foremost reason for blogging is for your family that your blog is a place where many come to visit time and time again. I thank you for sharing your blog with us and for sharing such precious moments as the one you did today! I know you don't think you are, but you ARE a Rock Star Blogger, Miss Paige. There would be many who would miss you if you ever stopped blogging. Please say you won't ever do that, pretty please! Have an awesome day!

  10. As a daughter that gave my mom some major tude - keep blogging! This will be a treasure for YOU and for THEM later in life. I will also encourage you that my mom (like you) stayed consistent with her walk with the Lord and just kept loving us through every stage. I am so grateful she didn't overreact and she knew we would come back and we did. We all three (now all married) call her 3-5 times per day and would die without her. It took college before I admitted I needed her and becoming a mom before I realized she was a saint. Keep up the awesome work.

  17. I have shared your thoughts about blogging many times. And, like you, I always come back to this: It's my remembering place. I'll never let that go.

    Beautiful post, Paigey.

  18. I know what you mean about blogging. I feel totally out of my realm and inadequate. My pictures and words don't add up to the others I admire. But then I remember why I started it. To document life with my family and to advocate. By the way, your blog is one of the main ones I admire and you inspire me so. To me you are "the real blogger". Love the pictures at the beach of your girls.

  19. your blog is one of my favorites. as a young mother with a daughter and another baby on the way, it is encouraging to read the thoughts and see a family that is a little further down the road and following Christ. thanks for writing! and for being an example of a sweet mama and wife. :)

  21. Another sweet, heart-felt tribute that makes me want to dig a little deeper into real life with my own daughters.

I think a lot of us bloggers are feeling the same things...wondering if we should do it at all. I've come to the conclusion that if we feel we should stop out of inadequacy or insecurity, that's the Enemy. He is shallow like that.

But dig deeper. If we want to stop because blogging is no longer serving our family and most importantly, our God, well...then that's worth paying attention to.

I used to be in the first camp, but an beginning to dig deeper into the second camp and listening to what God has to say to say about how much time to spend online. (Lissa's post @ Humble Pie is super inspiring).

    I love your heart!

  25. What an encouraging post! I've just finished reading James Dobson's "Bringing Up Girls" which I found completely depressing regarding teenage girls today. But reading your post I am encouraged that my girls (one also called Emily) don't have to follow the crowd. What a great testimony to your family!

  26. I love your blog! It is my favourite blog to read and you are amazing! So please don't stop....you are honest about your relationships with your kids. The ups and downs that we all have! I have 3 kids, ages 17, 15, 13 and can relate!

  28. Oh Paige...this is beautiful. I feel like i know your Em the least...not sure why but I love this post. She has a beautiful heart. I too have been thinking about stopping blogging (for privacy and safety reasons) but I do love having a journal of our family memories that is so easy to keep up (versus scapbooking). I am thinking about stopping though.

  31. Paige, keep blogging. Your so REAL and NORMAL and LOVING family is a bit of a shelter in a storm for me sometimes. I don't quite know HOW I became addicted to following your blog a year or so ago, but I did (I am very visual and I am sure it was your great style in everything you touch or purchase that drew me at first) but then your love for your family and "watching you" all interact so well . .. I haven't seen a lot of that in my life and it might sound crazy but it is good for me to somehow, however small, just feel a tad bit included in your family life via your blog.
