what a hoot

once upon a time, i thought owls were ugly.

we would visit gregg's mom's home,
she had owl pictures, owl paintings, and ceramic owls.
usually all in brown.
back then, i did not have the appreciation i do today for the color brown.
& i surely didn't like brown owls.

then harry potter came along
& that adorable white owl of his changed everything.
i present hedwig.

then i saw legend of the guardians on a snow day with caroline.
& darn if they weren't entirely too cute

my sweet home alabama bestie found this little sweetie perched on her front porch

cruising around online i stumbled upon this stylish owl themed baby shower
seriously.
i had no idea owls could be both lovely & stylish.
where have i been?

& an owl themed first birthday
again, even the little brown owl is precious.

& of course
anthropologie knew all along
~ owls are all the rage

the winking wisecracker jar. how cute is he? i think he needs to perch on my kitchen counter.

some more owl images via anthro

how 'bout this snazzy little umbrella stand

even mini boden jumped on the hip owl scene

& oh my word. check this out.

little miss addison must love eating her pb&j on this

& our favorite stationary contact on etsy
melissa has several cute little owl options...here's one we love

then of course blabla kids makes such sweet things
such as this.
have you ever?

spectacular images...

makes me wish i had treasured those little brown owls
at grandma miller's home after all

  1. I've had a love for owls since childhood.
I'm pretty sure they worried about me as a child as most kids liked dogs and cats...haha

  5. I heard an owl outside in my back yard the other morning and the first thought that went through my mind was, "I wonder if Hedwig is bringing me a message from Hogwarts?" Yes, I'm a nerd like that. But I love that white snowy owl so much! Owls are the symbol of wisdom I have heard so I guess a love of owls is a sign that we are all wise! ;-)

  10. I'm a Chi Omega, and I had no idea owls could be cute until I went to college. My grandmother had all the brown owl things, and I disliked them greatly. Now, I find myself drawn to owls everywhere. Love this post!

  11. Oh my gosh! I have been totally obsessed with owls ever since I got pregnant. I don't know why but I want them all over my nursery. I will be painting an owl this week right over the baby's crib. Does that sound creepy?

I think might have to have that owl beanie for my little one's newborn photos!

  12. Owls give me the shudders ever since one tried to pick up and carry off my small dog and then swooped at me (that is apparently not an unheard of situation in my of the world, altough I was totally shocked and in disbelief at the time). His wide round golden eyes would have been beautiful in many situations I am sure, but not when they are boring down on you intently, and you are prey! I can picture those eyes in my mind very clearly and it is not a pleasant picture!

  18. Owls are sooo cute. We went on a family walk one night and saw an enormous owl that must have had a wing span of 4 feet. It was white and it was the most beautiful sight. It was a real treasure to see, too bad I didn't bring the camera along with me. Missed photos ops are my forte though.

  20. I had to comment since after all I am Hoot's mom! Hoots intials are OWL so Hoot has been his nickname since birth. I hated owls too, we had the old ceramic cookie jar that I thought was the ugliest thing ever. Now i am quite fond of them. PS hope your training is going great for your big run coming up!

  24. I was a Chi Omega in college (like a previous poster) and our whole sorority house was full of 'old lady'-ish owls. It totally creeped me out. Now that they've started making owls cute, hopefully they will redecorate :)

  28. Thanks so much for including my little owl! :)

We use to have a huge owl living in a back yard tree (and we do not live on a large farm or even large lot) .. it was quite an issue for well over a year. About lost a dog and actually a baby (griff!) over that darn thing. That being said, I do think they are cute (you're picks here!)

    xx
