mama i have something to tell you....

mama i have something to tell you-her

what's up cutie
did your social studies grade plummet from an A to a B-me

ummm.  no.  duh.

so apparently i have a love life
(insert rolling eyes. mine & hers)

charlie
( his name has been changed to provide the little fella some anonymity
in the event his mama is a blog reader!) asked me out-her

 you said NO
right?-me
( maybe in a slightly high pitched voice)

geez mom
of course
i'm not even double digits yet-her
(cracking up that i used a high pitched voice)

& one more thing
so apparently mabel ( name also changed ) says cuss words-her

good gracious caroline
your day sounds like something right out of jersey shore-me

which reminds me of a hysterical dialogue in the car
one sunday after church....

mama, the Bible says Mary was a virgin.
what's a virgin?- her

i look at dan & make the face
dan looks back & says....so i guess you'll have that talk after lunch.

not.

figure she asked one question
i need not give her the entire sermonette on the birds & the bees.
so i make the mature decision to answer simply and with brevity the question asked.

so i smoothly deliver the following:

means that mary had not had sex.

followed by the most hysterical grossed out face
capable of being made only by a 9 year old.

need to give further explanation & discuss the birds and bees...
vanquished!

by the way,
these images were taken during a light dusting of snow we recieved
the day after Christmas.

however
we are currently completely covered with around 6 inches!
we woke to a beautiful blanket of snow this morning.

we, along with all of atlanta,
bought enough groceries to personally feed an army!
today's recipes include Edie's Beefy Enchiladas
& Darby's, well actually Alton Brown's
tomorrows menu will feature
& Spicy Tomato Soup for lunch

praying we don't loose power.
i obviously have lofty kitchen goals!

i'm also working on my 365 project
and a personal photo blog (currently under construction) that i hope to share soon!

  2. Love!!! Those pictures are beautiful and I look forward to seeing the ones from your current snow fall too.

We have avoided the birds and bees talk so far. My answer the virgin question was someone that hasn't been married. Am I terrible for that?

  8. Oh this is better than a soap opera. I couldn't wait to read the next line.
Miss C looks adorable (as always) in those bright colors.
I love how she puts that, "apparently", before her sentences. Is that a defense mechanism? Maye like "apparently" meaning...I have nothing whatsoever to do with this...it just sorta happened. That would be one of my chilens' idsea.
I actually said to my son David the other day while I was looking at some photos of Miss C on your blog, "Hey David, I found a girlfriend for you." He rolled his eyes, got up out of his chair and told me to knock it off.
What?!!! I thought I made an excellent choice.
Too bad we can't choose who our children will date and marry. Darn it!

  9. "Apparently" I can't spell...I meant ideas not idsea. My fingers move faster than my brain on the keyboard.
By the way...I love Caroline's comment in there.

  13. Precious baby girl with such a pure little heart! Gotta love those sweet conversations. I treasure mine with Paige. At around little bit's age I gave Paige the American Girl book explaining all of the wonders that come along with being a girl. It really opened up lots of dialogue. I know you've got this down to a science though with four girls :) Love your snow day pics. We are about to go outside and I'm going to attempt some of my own. We have 5 inches in TN! Have fun!

  23. Hi Paige - this is so funny - I have a nine year old so to say it resonates is an understatement! On the virgin part - my kids and I watched a pre-Christmas set of films called 'The Nativity' which retold the story in a lot of detail. They focused on the fact that Joseph did not initially believe that Mary had become pregnant from God. Let's just say we had to cover the whole virgin conversation and I too took the same decision to just be honest; not too much detail but some. I explained it - short and sweet - and still she just looked at me blankly and said 'uh huh' and carried on with making her friendship bracelet! Hmm not sure I got the message across. Would have preferred a gross out face! Anyway - glad you enjoyed your snow day! Lou xx

  25. Caroline is precious. Much to say but as I looked over to her last night in church the word precious came to mind. Love your girls, each one! I just do.

    Hoping you are having a fun snow day. It sounds like I might be needing to come by for lunch and breakfast and dinner...just saying reading your blog and FB this morning made me hungry! {Smiles to you all}

  27. Paige:

This comment is totally unrelated to today's post, but ...

I just watched your "Stories of Hope" video and have to say that the class, style, and true beauty that I felt you were as a result of reading your blog for several months now was just raised to a whole new level.

    You touched my heart...

To see your face (which is different in a moving picture than still.) and to hear your voice, sharing your beautiful but hard, hard, hard, testimony just made you incredibly real and you came across as really genuine, beautiful and godly.

I love your testimony -- of how our good, faithful and loving God proved Himself to be just that during one of life's most unimaginable events - the death of your young husband. I love that you relied and trusted on your faith to carry you through. I love that you found love again -- in a very special man who God so clearly earmarked a very long time ago to walk through and share your journey.

Although I don't have a blog, I have friends who do who have met other bloggers and they have sometimes said, "They aren't who they are on their blog in real life." (A comment that while not meaning to be gossip is not usually intended as a compliment.) and that is understandable; an easy trap to fall into as you can be anyone you want to be on a blog. There is, even among Christian bloggers some competition to be the most inspirational, the craftiest, the most talented, the best at homemaking and decorating, the best photographer, etc.

Something tells me that you are who you say you are and I so admire that. It comes across in the stories you tell and how much you appear to appreciate the things you have.

Thank you for sharing your testimony and for encouraging us with your words
and through your actions. (And those amazing photographs!)

May God continue to bless you and your family in a big and mighty way in 2011,

    Destiny

  36. Hope you're enjoying the snow! We recently got the 'what is a virgin?' question, too (my daughter is 8). I shot the look at my husband who said 'someone who is pure'. It bought me some time! :)
